Grapeland festival gearing up for 72nd year

For 72 years Grapeland has celebrated the peanut, and this year is no different with the annual Peanut Festival, set for Oct. 13-15 at Grapeland City Park. The festival features a carnival, a Peanut Queen coronation, a parade featuring some of the best floats found in East Texas as the floats this year celebrate with an “Under the Sea” theme.

For years peanuts were the cash crop in the sandy soil surrounding Grapeland, these days it’s watermelons, but locals still remember when the peanut was queen and it’s still celebrated.

After the parade head to Grapeland City Park and ride the carnival rides, browse through the arts and crafts vendors and eat some great-tasting festival food.

Don’t miss one of the best small-town festivals around.
