No museum devotes more to understanding Texas’ greatest leader than the Sam Houston Memorial Museum in Huntsville. The museum traces the life of Sam Houston, from his birth in Virginia, to his rise to prominence in Tennessee, to his coming to Texas to lead the fledgling army, and a new nation.

The museum also contains the beautiful Woodland Home, and other buildings from Sam Houston’s life.

The museum and its grounds are a must stop for travelers on the search for Texas history.
